Ty's self-insert character sitting at his desk in his bedroom, with his night-light illuminating the room. He glances at the camera with a smile while holding his pen up in his hand.

I initially made this as artwork for a business card I would be handing out to people during my attendance to the May 2024 MCM Comic Con in London. However, I couldn't finish it in time as my artwork prints wouldn't be arriving on time, and I was busy with my part-time job, so I put it aside.

I did, however, repurpose it into a practice of my shading and lighting planning in illustration and for that reason, I think I did pretty good! It was a good reminder to plan my colouring and shading process ahead of the lineart process instead of improvising, which never really worked out for me.

Rough sketch of the illustration whilst I was still designing it to be for business cards. The cover coukd be flipped around for commission info, contacts and portfolio links.

Here I began designing the layout of the business card and lineart. I also added just a pinch of decoration to squeeze as much personality out of it as I could. I also wanted a way to atleast nod to my characters, even in a professional business card.

An almost finalised rendition. You'll notice how it's much brighter compared to the final outcome, and that's because I drew in extra shadows to give the light source more presence and make the composition much more striking. Whist the artwork was originally planned to be in grayscale, I added colour to the trademark red nose and cheeks to really make it all POP together!
