It's the start of our second week and... Uh-oh, it looks like SOMEONE arrived late for the first class! Looks like someone isn't squared up enough for UNIVERSITY. Despite missing my first morning session, I was able to catch up since the class I had joined was a continuation of the morning lesson: Rotoscope animation!

Everyone was tasked to find real-life footage of people and/or animals and animate over them using ToonBoom Harmony. Admittedly, I had been going through a rough morning and I have been watching a lot of rotoscoped animations online prior to the class, so I had wanted to choose a scene that I thought would be very funny to draw over as well as practice motion and facial expressions on, so for my footage, I chose a segment of a video from the Angry Video Game Nerd, specifically, the episode where someone dressed as bugs bunny gets beaten up by the protagonist of the series "Nerd".

I was initially indecisive on whether or-not I shoukld include bunny ears, however, when it came to animating the punches between the two characters, I decided to animate the ears and purposely draw them swaying and bouncing further than they actually are to exaggerate the motion and impact of the punches. I would have animated more frames and scenes of the fight, but I was running low for time and I had a ZOOM meeting for the Aardman Academy storyboarding course and I am unable to work with ToonBoom Harmony from home for the time being, so I had to keep it short.

Overall, I'm impressed with the quality of the animation! I had lot's of doubts when I was going through the frames, but having the lineart be in constant motion makes the consistencies a lot easier on the eyes. If there's any use I'll have for rotoscoping in my animation projects, it will be for detailed dances and bits of movement with human-proportioned characters.
